Individual Evaluation - Vilson Nikolli
This is my independent evaluation, The questions I will be examining and answering are; In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? What have you learned from your audience feedback? How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Ideas that I want to touch upon are: Target Audience Controversy How the video can be improved, Audience perception & In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media product was based on developing and producing a music video debuting a new single by an artist of our choice in this case, Usher and R.Kellys single; Same Girl. With this musci video we also had to create a whole package which includes the promotion of the artists and thier single. We challenged conventional media textxs in several ways, one way was in the depiction of the artists, we used two artists from different races and background to break from the usual tradition of the lead acting roles, it also differed from the actual artists who are both black and can be seen as breaking conformity and quite postmodern in the sense that it was controversial.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
The combination between our main product and ancillary texts shows a cohesiveness as it throughout follows the theme we aimed for which is the lavish, stylish lifestyle. The colours and fonts used throughtout these text have been intergrated into the way the main product, the music video, looks and feels. The use of props and clothing has shown relationships with the fonts used in for example the CD cover, where they are indirectly connected through one facet being the stylish look. The effectiveness of this combination can also be seen through our webpage where it uses the same fonts and colours portrayed in the CD cover and thus continues with this image we are promoting.
What have you learned from the audience feedback?
I have learnt through audience feedback that our video was generally recieved positively but there were some criticisms. Our video was said to contain a few flaws, some transitions were not very fluid and the continuity a bit jarring, for example as someone pointed out at 3.22 in the video the transition did not look smooth but somewhat dragged the viewer out of the experience. It has taught me that even the slightest bit of poor editing can significantly enhance or downgrade the viewers experience. I have also learnt that however linear a story is in a music video it is still essential to convey a message and evoke emotions from the audience, it is better to keep the story in a music video linear and simple as people tend to watch music videos more so for the entertainment ontop of the actual song and not for a very composed and intricate story. I have also learnt that green screens in our music videos wasnt up to industry standard CGI however it is understandable as we havent got the resources or the time to make the CGI look to such a high quality however CGI can also enhance the experience for a viewer but can also detract from it if it is poorly edited and if it has no or little relevance to the scene for example the CGI used in our music video was of black polka dots and a white background and this didnt really mesh with the image we were trying to onvey. However other than those technical aspects the feedback was positive, we were praised for the types of shots used e.g. high angle, fragmentation etc, and the lip syncing and acting was great. The continuity bar from one moment was spot on and it all flowed well.
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
In the construction and research phase of our product we had to utilise various facets of media technologies such as programmes like Internet explorer and within it the websites such as facebook, prezi, survey monkey etc that helped us reasearch and gain a idea on who watches these videos, who are the artists fanbase e.g. are they more likely to be girls or guys, what age, where from, all these minute details were researched upon so we could get the best possible idea of what we were going to do to cater to our audience. This helped us later in the production of the video as we incorporated the brands such as Ralph Lauren being sported by the artists in the video, that could relate to the fanbase of young, 16-24 year olds who are currently wearing these brands as it is in fashion. These minior point helped relate the product, music video to the audience and make them care even on a superficial level more about the video and peak thier intrests. In the planning and evaluation stages programmes such as Iweb, Prezi, Adobe Premier, were being used more regurlarly as we were planning on the production of our video and we had to show the steps we took to get to the final product. Prezi was used to show different facets of our overall package for example a Prezi was created to show step by step instructions on how to add and layer music and special effects onto the video, adobe premier was the base as it contained the area in which we could edit the video to get to our end prouct. The Iweb was used to enhance and promote the end product and thus we created a web page about the artists, for updates on the single and other events and general trivia on the artists keeping everything posted and up to date. We used facebook to promote the single as it directly reached our audience in a less time consuming and free way, survey monkey was used to gain peoples opinions on the video and let us know what can/needs to improve and what went well, at they liked, diked etc.

Individual Evaluation - Frederick Mokoso
This is my independent evaluation, the questions I will be examining and answering are;
1. In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
As in today’s world a high percentage of music videos show girls as a sexual object. You could argue that the music video shows intersexuality(art recognizing art) which is shown when Usher and R.Kelly are singing the chorus and at certain times look straight into the camera as if they were expressing themselves to the audience. We also integrated many high class logos such as Ralph Lauren, Mercedes Benz as well as filming parts of the video in high class bars and restaurants. This down to both the real Usher and R.Kelly comporting themselves in a high class manner, so we had to make sure that Fred (R.Kelly) and Daniel (Usher) portrayed this to our target audience as many of them see these two artist as role models and like to copy there sense of style and living as much as possible, so we knew that this would keep them interested. In our video we have shown controversy as in the original video both artists are black, but we decided to star a white male as one of the roles. The reason for doing this is due to they not being many duets featuring one black male and one white male. It was also done so that the music video was different and kept our target audience interested.

1. In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
This year’s media product involved me creating a music video. The song our group decided to do was 'R.Kelly duet with Usher - Same Girl'. Having watched many music videos beforehand we understood what we had to include into our own video to make sure it was successful. Our aim was to include a variety of media conventions which would relate to both our music video and our music artists in order to show a modern day music video which would appeal to our target audience. We included fragmentation of the body, examples of this is the girl's lips and legs. Fragmentation of the body was used as it’s a way of showing sexual objectification and this would appeal to teenage boys who are part of our target audience. As in today’s world a high percentage of music videos show girls as a sexual object. You could argue that the music video shows intersexuality(art recognizing art) which is shown when Usher and R.Kelly are singing the chorus and at certain times look straight into the camera as if they were expressing themselves to the audience. It was also done so that the music video was different and kept our target audience interested.
2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
With the main product being our music video, we combined many aspects of ancillary texts to develop the promotion of Usher and R.Kelly. We have created a website which shows our audience many different things on both artists, e.g. pictures of them, biographies and many other things, but as you can see the font and colour that has been used on the website, is the same that has been used on the CD covers. This was due to consistency being very important to us as it appears professional and has some sort of high class, but more importantly it links everything together which is what we have been going for.3. What have you learned from the audience feedback?
After interviewing three girls and three boys, I have learnt that overall our target audience are very much pleased with our music video but had a small number of criticisms for us. For example one was when the audience’s attention was distracted for a matter of seconds when one artist took out a phone that was quite old and looked tacky which does fit in with the style of the artists being high class. This has made me understand that the smallest of things are scrutinised, and because of them could make the audience dislike your work. Although on the good side our audience were impressed with the way both artists presented themselves as Usher and R.Kelly in terms of their acting i.e. expressing their emotion via their body language, their attire and many other things. Overall our audience said that we interpreted ‘same girl’ very well.4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
In the construction and research phase we used many media technologies for e.g., facebook, prezi, survey monkey, music metric, and many more. This helped find out who would watch our video, who are the artists fanbase e.g. are they more likely to be girls or guys, what age, where from, all these minute details were researched upon so we could get the best possible idea of what we were going to do to cater to our audience. In the planning and evaluation programmes such as Iweb, Prezi, Adobe Premier, were used were used a lot. Adobe premiere was one of the main softwares we used as with this software we edited our music video. Facebook was used to promote our video as i found out that facbook is the leading social network, and i knew that most of our target audience are always on this website.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Ideas that you might want to mention are:
Target Audience
Controversy
How the video can be improved
Audience perception
The aim of our project was to create a music video of an artist of our choice. We had to create an album cover, website and music video for our selected artist(s). Our target audience is teens to mid-twenties aged 16 to 26 and also though that are interested in this genre of music. The song that we chose was a duet by Usher and R.Kelly "Same Girl". This song is a duet so we knew that it was going to be a challenge to use. we all knew the song well and had seen the video many times so we each had a ruff idea of how our video project will go and what we will need to complete it. We had to create a video that challenges conventional real media products in many ways.
Our Music video develops, challenges conventional real media products in many ways.
Mainly it challenges the original music video straight of the boat. in the original music video Usher and R.Kelly are both black artists. in our music video Usher is white and R.Kelly is still black. This challenges the video as there is a change of race. An average white person in the situation they are in the song wouldn't talk like that or use those words. Using both white and black actors appeal two two genres widening our target audience increasing views. Rnb/rap is usually portrayed as low culture. And the use of high class props and costumes and the upper class lifestyle we showed questions this traditional label of low class culture. It in fact highlights the facts that high and low culture doesn't actually exist and it is all lies. Also we our characters are quite young which again challenges the original song. teenagers wouldn't be talking about marriage or potential wives. Another challenge that we have arisen is the use of upper class venues, clothing and props that we have used. Teenagers (again referring to age) wouldn't been seen in upper class restaurants or driving around in upper class vehicles, it goes against the norm. we used a popular and widely used method of emphasis called fragmentation. This was very effective as it focus on specific body parts of our girl for example. We showed clips focusing on our girls lips creating the sense of seduction. To create that sense of sexual identification (staying within our given boundaries) we dressed our girl in red. Red stands out and also our girl being blonde it makes her look sexy, which was the image we were we going for. We also showed her walking slowly towards the camera swinging her hips yet again making her look sexy. All this use of sexiness attracts and appeals to teenage boys which is included in our target audience.
The combination of our main product and ancillary texts go together very well. We set ourselves a personal goal to keep a basic but important link within our work and products. We kept a house style (That consisted of colour), that was used throughout all of our products which gave it that immediate link. Our colours chosen also relate to the genre we are representing allowing our audience to know exactly what to expect. we also used the same font was carried throughout.
We used the same image thorough out our media products to keep that sense of house style and class.
Our album to the right here shows our controversial portrayal of usher and R.Kelly.
Another link that was used within our products is that they each advertise each other. for example our website has our music video on it and all of our album art and other products.
Our Cd cover links all of media products just as well as our other products. The QR code in the bottom left hand corner of the backside of the album cover can be scanned at it will link you to exclusive content and to the website.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I have learned from our audience feedback that it was a big hit with our target audience. They were attracted to the music video and the genre of music, with smiles on their faces and excitement in their eyes. They loved the use of luxury used within in our video, particularly the high caliber restaurants, cars and dress sense. They were very interested and cant wait to see another Video produced by us.
Media technologies played a big part within the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages.
In our research, we have used digital media technologies such as macs and Youtube including other internet sites such as www.musicmetric.com to research music videos and relevant information needed. In production we used a cannon SLR 1080p camera to record our film clips. We use Adobe premiere to edit these clips and create our music video for our target audience. We used the webcam on the mac to video our audience testing within the process. For our ancillary tasks we used Photoshop to edit our images to spec. To track our progress we used blogger to create a database of ideas and research.
Personal evaluation
Personally i am very happy with our final outcome with our media products, i feel that do exactly what they are supposed to do. The film was a great success and enjoyable during the process minusing the lengthiness of editing and lip syncing.

Individual Evaluation - Daniel Buja
My Write
up – Individual Evaluation – Daniel Buja
How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary texts?Throughout the creation of the four
products we have tried to keep a few items similar, for example
gold/black/white are continuingly throughout each product, reasons for them specific
colours are, Gold – the colour gold gives a strong sense of richness throughout
the products, Black/White – Specifically used to emphasis the colour of the
artists, and so portrays that the main message of equality is being portrayed
through each product. However, the specific font that is used throughout the
four products highlights the luxurious and lavish lifestyle of both artists,
through the high classed swishes, linking of letters and flicks at the end used
with the font represent a high class of wealth and education. What have you learned from your
audience feedback?
First impression, whilst recording the
audience whilst watching the music video from a neutral perspective, it showed
that the audience were impressed by the high standard of the music video and
also at the great standard of editing, however there a slight constructive
feedback, which was, that one of the artists accidentally looked in the camera
for less than a second, but it was slightly noticed, however they were strongly
impressed by the acting and emotions being shown through the music video, as it
added that professional touch of drama to it. The feedback given to us will
help us in the near future, with our studies and we’ll strive for the best to correct
and mend the problem.
How did you use media
technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
·
iMac –
In order to create, edit and finalise the products, the iMac was used a
considerable amount as, we used not only for products, but also to document the
work on blogger and YouTube.
·
Mobile –
The Mobile phone was mainly used to communicate with one another, however what
people won’t know is that, our mobile phone was key to all the lip sinking as
we had the song on loud so that we correctly sang the words at the right which,
resulted to the music video having that slight ease to sync the mp3 song and us
sing together.
·
Camera –
Obviously we used the camera to record the music video, however we also used it
to take photos of the artists in action so that It can be published on the
created website.
·
Tripod –
The tripod was used to mainly assist us to have a stable image throughout the
music Video but also was used to capture the meaningful shots and angles from
impossible places.
During the
construction phase, the main media technology, which was used, was the iMac, as
we needed to document our Planning, Also to document our research on the artist’s
lifestyles. Although, once we had completed the song selection, we then firstly
began to think about how we will construct the music video, which then lead
into planning how and when and what we were going to-do and use, once the research
had been gathered, we decided to switch over to the practical side of the media
studies and begin our products, which then began to involve the media technologies
named above.

Evaluation - What Have We Learned From Audience Feedback
This is a Prezi explaining in depth the things we have learnt from our audience feedback and overall feedback gained
Evaluation - Importance Of Technology In Media
Using technology in Media is very important as we would have not been able to create a music video to a high standard like ours. Technology is really important in media as without it, people would never be able to create anything for example we would have not been able to complete our planning or our construction as for both we needed our Mac computers. Overall technology is the biggest factor in media and without it people would never be able to create anything.
Here we talk about the technologies we have incorporated into our project and what we have used and their importance to completing our product.

This is our overall reflection on how we think our project went, what went well and what didn't go to plan the benefits and challenges we encountered. Two members were missing as they had exams and could not join us and we could not wait as we needed to complete this before the deadline.
Evaluation - Website analysis
Website Analysis
To create our website we had to look at the real usher and R'kellys' website.Looking at their website was very inspirational as it really set us off for what we needed to create and promote.
Within our website we had to create character representation in many ways through photos for example usher and R'kelly both have images of themselves looking sophisticated. Usher has an image of himself wearing glasses, and smart casual clothing.
R'kelly has an image of himself in smart sunglasses next to a book which yet again gives the images of sophistication.
Usher and R'kelly also capture the representation of being hard workers Usher has a picture of him working hard in the studio which will relate back to fans as their idols are working hard to please them.
R'Kelly is shown here to the left putting his all in during a concert. The fans will appreciate this and love him more.
Usher and R'Kelly Have yet still another representation other than sophisticated and a hard worker, they both has the representation of cool/hard which the fans love as every girl loves a bad boy.
